About Me.

I have played guitar since the age of 13 and have always set-up and maintained my own instruments. My working life as a mechanical engineer led me to be very curious about the structure and intricacies of acoustic instrument design and construction.

In 2007 I opted for early retirement from my role as an Engineering Project Manager. I enrolled on a part-time Guitar and Fretted Instrument Making Course spending 4 years at Merton College in Morden Park, London.

Since 2007 I have erected a workshop in my garden and spent a few afternoons a week building, maintaining, repairing and renovating guitars and mandolins. I am now well equipped with the skills and specialist tools required to tackle just about any building, maintenance or repair job.

I run it as a self funding hobby; not as a business. Therefore my prices cover material and parts costs plus a small charge towards some of my time. I use this to buy my specialist tools and to maintain my existing equipment.

John Walker.
